Aivazovsky, Ivan - Russian (1817-1900) Moonlit Seascape With Shipwreck
Aivazovsky Was a Russian Painter from 1817 to 1900. Aivazovsky focused mainly on seascapes and ocean scenes. In fact over half o Aivazovsky paintings are of the sea and he is considered by many to be the greatest seascape oil painters to have lived. Aivazovsky was very prolific and painted over 6000 works of art during his lifetime. Aivazovsky paintings take on a romantic feel about them and are sometimes compared to J.M.W. Turner An interesting side note is that before Aivazovsky passed away he moved to Feodosia opened an art school and built a historical museum.
